Rívers:Lambre Mandeo

The privileged location of the district council of Paderne, located on the banks of a beautiful estuary and surrounded by the Rivers Mandeo and Lambre gives a great beauty to this landscape. The beauty is refelcted in the slogan which is written in the swelch “Heaven between rivers”. These rivers are the natural border of the district councits of Betanzos, Coiros and Miño.

River Mandeo

River Mandeo begins to flow in a place known as marco das Pias (in Sobrado dos Monxes). Its 56 km long and the longest river in the Atlantic slope of the county called A Coruña, although the first longest river is the Eume. River Mandeo flows into the Artabric gulf being an estuary together with river Mendo.

It is characterized by its well preserved fragas and because it has important quantities of salmon in the low river course when the river is in contact with the sea water, some Marismas made up of rushies

Along the rute of the River Mandeo, we find several habitats

Mubbly plains which are exposed to view when there is lowtide os sandy

-Lagoon
- Annual vegetation of salicoruios an other species of muddy and sandy areas
-Spartinas

Although rushes are the most dominant vegetation in the natural space, there are some well defined areas depending on the deepness and also on the quantity of salt in water.

In the middle of the stuary (river mouth characterized by a wide cove where the sea seeps into inland) there is a lowtide: a plain colonized by marine zoo. On both sides of the river there are weadowlands of salicornia which are being substituted as long as we go near the exterior through the marine rushes. Together with the river mouth, the rush is substituted by other kind of especies. There also exist a big representation of typical plants salty waters lilce aster, limonium,
