Mills::Mills in Teixeiro<<Back

It is a group of mills located in a beautiful oakwood in Teixeiro. They are located one following after , until five, taking advantage of the wate of the pool in Meizoso. The mills give the water back into the river once it has been used to mill, but there are some examples like this in which the water itself, goes from one to the other by means of a channel and a shuice mechanism. A group like this is something quite singular. On the one hand, some physical conditions are neccessary to a very sloped ground in such a way that the drop is enough to take advantage of the wate. On the other hand, some economic conditions are neccessary because a big production of grain was important so as it was neccessary to concentrate the mills in a same place.

They are very old conditions, all of them have a rectangular base and a lenght of five by six metres. The smallest, and twelve by six metres the biggest. The walls are sixty centimetres thick. The granite stone was used not only for th holes of the windows and doors but also for the millpond which were the water tank in which water was kept to mill the grain

The roof was os roof tile with just one slope except the one of the room which has a biggest size and which also provided space for the house where the roof had two slopes.

It is interesting to see the hellholes, a kind of tunnel where the water flows into. It has big pieces of masonry stones and false vault estructures. Nowadays , rodicios the axis and other fundamental pieces for the mill can not be seen.

Lower down, at the banks of River Mandeo, is the mill in Teixeiro , more recent and with the same water, but its features have no relation to the previous miller.
