HILL-FORT OF INSUA
It is located in the Noroccidental side of the district council of Paderne, in Tixoso, Insua (Viñas). It has a wide visibility and geographical dominion, not only in the interior but in the also coast. Because it is 90 meters on the sea level.
Its geographical situation is 43º 19´56 latitude North and 40º 30´54 longitude west.
It is a hill-fort of small measurements. Its main axis are North-South axis: 90 meters, east-west axis: 92 meters, maximum height of the defensive wall (w) 8 meters; height of the parapeto 2m. The Croa round and almost perfect.
The hill-fort is a bit damaged. As parapeto can’t be seen from the inside, you can’t talk of defensive walls.
It is impossible to find the location of the door due to the deterioration it is, being one of the few hill-forts in As Mariñas which doesn’t have an entry to its interior. There aren’t also remains of holes.
The interior of “The Cora” is a plane on its first half and the rest is progressively declining to the East.
Nowadays, some small dividing walls of masonry can be observed and in the middle of ceramics quite broken up can be seen in this hill-fort.
Due to its high situation, it can be seen from all the left bank of the estuary of Betanzos. This strategic location will contribute the visual communication with other hill-forts of this kind, that can’t be still seen nowadays. This is the case of the hill-fort of Xan Rozo, the hill-fort of Bergondiño, the hill-fort of Illobre, the one of Meirás, Lois or Sombreu.
