The chapel of Esperela belongs to the parish of San Julian of Vigo.

It does not appear mentioned in any old document , although the parish of Esperela in medieval documents like in a letter of the year 1037 of the book “ Tumbo of Sobrado” as one of the petitioners for the granting of the privilegd of the Villa of Puntedeume´s fundation by the King AlfonsoX in 1270.

It is devoted to Santa Marina, Galician saint, which supposely was from Xinzo de Limia and was considered as an ear guardian.

It is a rural and Galician simple example of a nave and an a rectangular apse, covered with a wooden armour with two slopes.

The main arch which is at the entry of the high chapedl and has a rectangular outline, has also a slight pointedness. At the bottom of the nave, there is a wooden platform.

The two doors have an archaic form with a monolithic lintel with the peculiarity of havin an arch just ornamental on top . The steeple is of Barrosque style ans it happens in most of the churches of the surrounding places.

On the top of it , there are two important crosses, one on top of a stone , and another enclosed on a circle on the animal´s head, which seems to be a bull. The figure of the bull on the crosses of the top appears quite often in the village as it happens in the church of Mondoi, Porzomillos, Vilamourel or in the chapel of San Cosme in Mantaras.

The church faces the head pointing to the East simbolizing the way to salvation because according to Genesis , it is the East where the Paradise is.

The wide walls which are on a atmosphere of absorption and mistery on its inside is a feature of the Romanesque style
