According to some sources of information, the name of the city hall means Saturno (Roman god related to the land activity of the sowing) in the ancient language of Celts. However, other sources state that it comes from “Paterni” and that it would refer to the agricultural owner of some lands of the local council.

This is so because “Paternus” means paternal, which belongs to the father, taking into account that the Pater (which comes from Latin) doesn’t only alludes to physic paternity, but also to the social function of boss of family. Anyway, any of this version gives that it is true evidence because there are a lot of hill-forts and human remains.

On the 13th of May 1964, it appears on the church of Paderne, a prerroman phallic idol which is supposely Celtic and with religious aims that can be actually seen in the Archeological Museum in A Coruña.

An example of the cultural heritage in Paderne and so of its history is the anthropoid grave in Santiago in Adragonte. It is located in the back part of the church of the village. It is a grave of the anthropoid type, human shaped, and dates before the XII century. It represents in many cases a singular example within the style of antropomorphist graves and its features make him an important museum piece in the Galician cultural heritage.

A character of the Andrade family, Fernán Pérez de Andrade “O Bo”, in the XIV century ordered to build a bridge over Lambre River to establish good communications between Pontedeume and Betanzos. The place where the bridge was built, was called Ponte do Porco, a name which makes reference to the legend of Roxin Roxal.

It is in this story where we are talked about Roxin Roxal, which was a servant of the landlord of Puentedeume, Mr. Nuno Freire de Andrade. This young boy brought up by the landlord of Puentedeume fall in love of Teresa, which was the young daughter of his landlord. Although Teresa was also fall in love of this servant and was accepted by Mr. Nuno, she had to get married with Mr. Osorio, Mr. Enrique because her father ordered him, as Roxin was not noble. Roxin was exiled so as the love affair make difficult the marriage with Teresa.
