HILL-FORT OF ADRAGONTE

It is in the pansh of Adragonte, Areas. It is placed 6 km far away from Betanzos on the local road C-640 which goes to Vilalba (Lugo). This place is on a winding sinuous plain, which is approximately 315 high on the water level, and is almost placed in the middle of “Mount Castelo” located over a big rock. This is the only hill-fort in this parish.

It is a hill-for of small proportions and provided that there is a small and irregular platform on its top, it makes us think it is more likely to be defensive observation post.

Its measurements are North-South axis of 42 m. High, East west asix, 33 meters long, the highest height of the exterior slope is 10 m. Long and the average height of the defensive wall on the North-East side is 8 meters long.

Going out from Betanzos, 6,5 km. Far away, on the road which goes to Vilalba, 240 meters far away of this path, an unusual hill with loads of vegetation with predominance on eucalyptus and pines can be distinguished.

The Southern part of this hill-fort mustn´t had had a parapeto because its natural slope contributes to an unexpected continuity on this side, being the talud 200 meters long. Moreover this wall which surrounds the hill-fort has two pieces of masonery. One Northeastern of approximately 17 m. Long which is falling down on its extremes against.

The door if any day existed mist match up to the only lowering of the talud on the Northern side. It can’t be seen another access through the defensive walls except that it will be equipped on the hole itself in some of its areas.
